Add the DNS records I sent you

Your domain registrar is whoever you bought the domain from — GoDaddy, Namecheap, Google Domains, Squarespace, Cloudflare and so on. DNS records live there, and they are what tell the internet where to send people and email.

I will send you a list that looks something like this:

Do this

1. Log in to your registrar and find the section called DNS, DNS Management, Manage DNS, or Advanced DNS. Every provider names it slightly differently.
2. For each row I sent you, click Add record and copy the three values across exactly.
3. Leave TTL at whatever the default is. It does not matter for this.
4. Save.

Things that trip people up

• The Name field. If I wrote @, that means the domain itself. Some registrars want you to leave that field empty instead, or type the full domain. All three mean the same thing.
• Do not delete records you do not recognise. Especially MX records — those are your email, and removing them stops mail arriving. I will tell you explicitly if something needs removing.
• Trailing dots. Some providers add a dot to the end of a value automatically. That is normal, leave it.
• It is not instant. Changes usually take ten minutes to an hour, occasionally up to a day. If it is not working after fifteen minutes, that is expected, not broken.
