Invite me to your Stripe account
Needed if I am building checkout, invoices or subscriptions. You can give me a role that cannot touch your money.
Before you start
- Owner or Administrator access to the Stripe account
- The email address I gave you
Stripe has properly granular roles, so you do not have to hand over the keys to the whole business to get a checkout built.
Do this
- Go to dashboard.stripe.com and sign in.
- Click Settings (the gear icon, top right).
- Under Business settings, click Team and security, then Team.
- Click New member.
- Enter my email address and pick a role:
- Developer — what I need to build and test a checkout. Can see and create API keys, cannot see your payouts or bank details.
- Analyst — read-only. Fine if you just want me to look at something.
- Administrator — only if I am also setting up products, tax or billing for you.
- Click Invite.
Test mode first, always
Everything I build gets tested against your account in test mode, where the card numbers are fake and no money moves. You will see nothing in your real payments until we deliberately switch it live together, and I will tell you before that happens.
To remove me later
Settings → Team and security → Team → the three dots next to my name → Remove. Any keys I created stay valid, so tell me if you want those rolled too and I will handle it before I go.
What this access actually gives me
I can see
- Payments, customers, products and the developer settings
- API keys and webhook configuration, if you choose the Developer role
I cannot see
- Your bank account details or payout settings, on the roles below
- Anything at all once you remove me
If any of that is not what you expected, stop and message me before you click anything.
Stuck on a step?
Send me a screenshot of whatever is on your screen. That is almost always faster than describing it, and I would genuinely rather you asked than guessed.
